Without discussion, Los Angeles County Supervisors approved an $87,000 plan to enhance “self image” among the county’s nearly 75,000 employees. The vote set in motion an application to the federal government for nearly $66,000, the rest to be provided from county funds. Supervisor Kenneth Hahn voted for the plan, but said afterward he actually opposes it and will seek a new vote. County management officials say the idea will increase productivity and boost morale among workers who may feel they are not accomplishing anything worthwhile. The plan calls for hiring a consultant to work with county management, labor officials and employees.
