Pepsico purchased MEI’s soft drink business.

The company paid $590 million in cash to MEI, which was Pepsico’s third-largest independent bottler and operated in 33 Pepsi-Cola franchised territories from the Midwest to the Northwest. Last year, operating income from its beverage business totaled $79.1 million on revenue of $625 million.
