The Nation : Abortion Fight Planned

The Knights of Columbus, a powerful Roman Catholic lay group with 1.5 million members, is planning a national campaign against abortion, the organization’s leader said in New Haven, Conn. “We felt, where we’ve got the organizational strength at the grass-roots level, it’s time that we get involved in force,” said Virgil C. Dechant, whose title is supreme knight. Action may include challenges to abortion through the courts or through legislation, but the organization will not take action against specific abortion clinics, as some other groups have done, he said.
