Two Injured in Long Beach Crash of Light Plane

A home-built biplane crashed on railroad tracks near Long Beach Airport on Friday, injuring the two people on board but causing no injuries on the ground, officials said.
Pilot Kenneth R. Haas, 45, of Huntington Beach and passenger Robert Cepek, 39, of Westminster were taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital after the 4:30 p.m. crash near the Lakewood Drive-In Theater, said Los Angeles Sheriff’s Sgt. Irene McReynolds.
Both were reported in good condition.
The plane apparently developed engine trouble and crashed upside down on the railroad tracks behind the theater, near Carson Street and Cherry Avenue, a quarter-mile from the airport runway, McReynolds said.
