$1,000 Scholarships Awarded to 4 Athletes

Four Southeast-area high school students have been awarded $1,000 scholarships for scholastic accomplishments and involvement in soccer by the county Board of Supervisors.
The scholarships, to be applied to college educations, are sponsored by Ford Motor Co. and Pele, the former professional soccer player from Brazil.
The students are Jorge Hurtarte of Bell Gardens High School, Chandra Raman of Pioneer High, Robert Day of La Mirada High and Guillermo Ayala of Montebello High.
