Cerritos : 2-Term Council Limit
Proponents of a City Charter amendment that would prohibit council members from serving more than two consecutive four-year terms announced this week they have gathered enough signatures to qualify the measure for the November ballot.
Chris Fuentes, leader of a group called Active Citizens Together, one of several organizations backing the two-term limit, said nearly 3,000 residents signed petitions to put the charter amendment on the ballot. According to city officials, 2,231 signatures were needed. The petitions were delivered this week to City Clerk Caroline deLlamas, who has 30 days to verify the signatures.
Four of the five current council members oppose limiting council terms. Only newly elected Councilwoman Ann B. Joynt favors the two-term limit.
