Indians to Seek Control of Half of Quebec Land

MONTREAL — A group of Quebec Indians will ask for jurisdiction over 700,000 square kilometers of territory--almost half of Quebec’s land mass--at a constitutional conference on native rights slated for next year, one of their negotiators said.
The 10,000-member Attikamek-Montagnais Council will use the proposal as an opening bargaining position at the conference, scheduled for April, 1987, Bernard Cleary said in an interview with the daily La Presse.
