NEW YORK — ABC’s splashy and comprehensive coverage of Liberty Weekend paid off with strong prime-time ratings as the network easily won three nights of the extravaganza, losing only with Saturday’s Classical Music Salute to Liberty, according to A. C. Nielsen Co. overnight figures.
Figures released today showed that ABC’s 12 hours of prime-time coverage averaged a 17.5 rating and 34 share in Nielsen’s 12 metered markets. ABC, which paid $10 million for exclusive broadcast rights to the entertainment events, estimated that 100 million people watched some part of its Liberty Weekend coverage.
