CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A judge Thursday handed Virginia basketball center Olden Polynice a 30-day suspended sentence and ordered him to stay away from the store where he shoplifted a $17 pair of headphones April 30.
Coach Terry Holland, in a statement, said he is recommending that Polynice, who had entered a no-contest plea, give up his athletic scholarship and leave the team.
A university committee independent of the athletic department will determine in January if Polynice can rejoin the team.
