Race Across AMerica : Penseyres Has Lead; Secrest is Gaining

Peter Penseyres of Fallbrook remained the leading cyclist in the Race Across AMerica, but his lead is narrowing.
Mike Secrest of Flint, Mich., had closed to within 53 miles of Penseyres Friday, the sixth day of the 3,120-mile race. Secrest was 112 miles behind Thursday night.
Penseyres was the first rider to enter Martha, Tenn., Friday night, 2,093 miles into the race.
The riders started Sunday in Huntington Beach and the race will end on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City.
Lon Haldman of Harvard, Ill., is in third place and Matt Beerer of Garden Grove is fourth. Beerer, who was 160 miles behind the leader Thursday, dropped 220 miles back.
Elaine Mariolle of Berkeley is the women’s leader and fifth overall.
