Incendiary Device Found in British Official’s Mail

LONDON — A crude incendiary device in an envelope addressed to British Home Secretary Douglas Hurd ignited harmlessly Wednesday when it was opened by security staff members.
A police spokesman said: “The package was opened by security staff in a secure area. It was a device made up of a box of matches. It ignited, causing no personal injury and no damage.”
