“Miss Liberty’s Birthday Bash” pales in comparison to Scheer’s tribute to free public education.
The Bronx, like all metropolitan areas of the United States, is struggling to absorb and educate the new waves of immigrants. This process is the foundation of a democratic society, and the very thing that makes our country unique.
As I enter my melting-pot classroom in September of 1986, this article will inspire me to work harder to offset the poverty, neglect, and tragic memories so many of our young know too well. Another generation will succeed.
Thank you, Mr. Scheer, you made my year!
