Rep. Guy Vander Jagt (R-Mich.), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said that he introduced legislation to repeal the 22nd Amendment to clear the way for President Reagan to seek a third term. Changing the Constitution would require approval of three-fourths of the states. The amendment, which limits the President from serving more than two full terms, was ratified in 1951 after the four-term presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Reagan has said he would support repeal of the amendment for future presidents.
