Don’t Go to Europe for Lesson on Traffic
I was interested in Sam Hall Kaplan’s column (July 20) on how Europeans handle automobile traffic and sidewalk space.
You didn’t have to go to Europe to find a similar situation. Boston (my hometown) is widening sidewalks for additional space for trees and sidewalk cafes. Boston has some of the country’s worst weather, yet the city abounds with sidewalk cafes. L. A.--with the best weather--has few sidewalk cafes.
