Canon USA Inc. has begun construction of a $30-million building in Irvine that will serve as the regional office for 13 western states. A spokeswoman for the Irvine Co. said the 170,000-square-foot building will occupy a 22.8-acre parcel in the Irvine Spectrum Business Park.
The facility will house the company’s camera, copier, calculator, business systems, micrographics and optics divisions. The building will also contain a product showroom and warehouse space, and will serve as the company’s sales and service training centers.
The building will open next fall with 175 employees from the company’s Costa Mesa sales office, the spokeswoman said. Canon eventually will expand the work force at the new location to about 1,500.
Canon USA, a Lake Success, N.Y., supplier of cameras and office equipment, is the domestic marketer for Canon Inc. in Tokyo and had North American sales last year of $1.5 billion.
