Texeira Claims Championship in Racquetball Event

Top-seeded Guy Texeira defeated Mark Silva on Saturday to win the open division championship in the final tournament of the Coors Light/Marty Hogan racquetball series at the Mid Valley Athletic Club in Reseda.
Texeira, representing the Sports Gallery in Anaheim, won consecutive games to beat Silva, representing Rocky’s Racquet World in North Hollywood, 15-8, 15-2.
In the men’s open doubles competition, Vince Iannolo and Jim Bruner of the Santa Monica Athletic Club defeated Ed Savage and Jon Woodard of Mid Valley.
Tony McMann of the Sports Gallery won the men’s A division by defeating Phil Montano, who was representing Supreme Courts in Van Nuys. Dee Fereira of La Casa de Vida of Torrance defeated Rhonda Torres of the Santa Monica Athletic Club to win the women’s A division championship.
Linda Murashige of Tarzana, a national deaf champion who was the No. 1 seed in the women’s C division, was upset in the quarterfinals by Maria Kanowski of Arcadia All-Pro.
