Hermosa Beach : Bikes Restricted on Strand
- Share via
Bicyclists will no longer be able ride on the Strand between 11th and 15th streets, but must walk with their bicycles in that area, the City Council decided on a 4-1 vote this week.
The safety law will not be enforced until signs can be posted, probably by the end of September, said City Manager Gregory Meyer.
The council also voted unanimously to re-stripe the entire bicycle path on the Strand and add directional signs, and ordered the city staff to study further safety needs. The re-striping should be completed by Sept. 9.
The votes came after two residents voiced concerns about hazards caused by bicycles and skateboards. Carol Breidenbach, who lives on the Strand, asked that bicycles be banned from its entire length between Memorial Day to Labor Day. The council took no action on that request.
