Gardena : Motel Rate Ordinance
In an effort to discourage “prostitution and the creation of flop houses,” the City Council approved an ordinance this week that will eliminate hourly rates at hotels and motels. The ordinance takes effect in 30 days.
In requiring daily room rates the ordinance notes that as the number of hotels and motels in the city has grown, some older buildings have become run down and are charging hourly rates.
Councilman Mas Fukai requested a study of the vacancy rates at hotels and motels to determine the need for future facilities.
