A 26-year-old Sepulveda woman has been arrested on suspicion of killing her former boyfriend with a gun that he had bought her as a birthday gift, Los Angeles police said.
The woman, Renee R. Ortiz, is scheduled to be arraigned today) in Van Nuys Municipal Court on a murder charge in the Tuesday night shooting of Richard W. Weber, 36, of Van Nuys, Detective Mel Arnold said.
Weber, a security guard, was found dead about 8:40 p.m. in the living room of Ortiz’s apartment in the 9300 block of Sepulveda Boulevard. He had been shot several times with a small-caliber handgun, Arnold said.
Ortiz and Weber had lived together for several years and were the parents of a small boy, who is living with relatives, Arnold said. But Weber moved out about a year ago and married another woman, Arnold said.
Arnold said that Weber and his wife recently had an argument and that Weber left her and had been staying with Ortiz.
Ortiz is being held without bail at Van Nuys Jail.
