Westminster Is No. 1 in Season’s First Poll

Westminster High School, with 14 returning starters from a team that finished 8-5 last year, is the top-ranked team in the first prep football poll by the Orange County Sportswriters Assn.
The Lions earned all seven first-place votes to finish ahead of defending Southern Conference champion Santa Ana. Third-ranked El Toro and fifth-ranked Edison opened the 1986 season with victories last week.
In the featured game this week, seventh-ranked Foothill travels to ninth-ranked Capistrano Valley at 7:30 Friday night.
