College Volleyball : Santa Barbara Defeats Irvine

The UC Santa Barbara women’s volleyball team defeated UC Irvine Friday night, 15-9, 15-2, 15-7, in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. match at Santa Barbara.

Alison Wood had eight kills and two aces for the Anteaters (0-2 in conference and 3-7 overall). Irvine plays UC San Diego Tuesday at Irvine.

In other action:

Cal State Fullerton split a pair of matches on the first day of the round-robin Cal Bear Tournament at Berkeley.

Fullerton lost to defending Division II champion Portland State, 15-4, 16-14, before defeating Nevada Reno, 15-6, 15-10. Against Nevada Reno, freshman outside hitter Susan Herman had nine kills and junior setter Shelly Dangelis added six. The Titans play Sacramento State, Santa Clara and Cal today.
