AD’MYRA’ER

Director Michael Sarne, who virtually disappeared after the disastrous reception to his campy transsexual comedy “Myra Breckenridge” in 1970, has resurfaced--as an actor. He’ll be seen as Capt. Heinrich Schwarz, deputy to the Auschwitz death camp commander, in ABC’s 30-hour mondo-series “War and Remembrance,” due to air in 1988.
Sarne claims that “Myra” “is not only becoming a cult film and rediscovered by critics who were fashionably prudish when it came out, but it seems to be a kind of charm. Everyone connected with the picture has reached new heights of appreciation or made major comebacks.” (Among the players: Mae West, John Huston, Raquel Welch, Farrah Fawcett, Rex Reed and Tom Selleck, who played “Stud” to West.)
Everyone, that is, except Sarne. Still, he contends, “ ‘Myra’ has stood the test of time.”
