Scott Tinley, competing almost in his own backyard, won the San Diego Bud Lite Triathlon in the U.S. Triathlon Series at Solana Beach, Calif., covering the 1.5-kilometer ocean swim, 40-kilometer bicycle race and 10-kilometer run in one hour 52 minutes 19 seconds.
Linda Buchanan of Leucadia, Calif., won the women’s division in 2:05.56 as she turned back challenges from Juli Brening of Kirkland, Wash., and Kirsten Hansen of Denver.
The race, which drew 2,300 entrants, is the last stop in the 13-city U.S. Triathlon Series prior to the national championship which will be held Sept. 27 at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
