An old practice bomb, normally used by Air Force bombardiers in training was found by the side of the Harbor Freeway, Los Angeles police say. The 25-pound device, discovered by Caltrans workers in an ivy bank beside the southbound lanes near 51st Street, never presented a danger to anyone. “It was completely safe,” said detective Dave Weller, who explained that it was inert and could not have exploded.
