PREP FOOTBALL : Costa Mesa Uses a Riddell to Fool Rancho Alamitos

Senior Tyler Riddell scored three touchdowns Friday night to lead Costa Mesa High School to a 35-8 nonleague victory over Rancho Alamitos at Davidson Field in Newport Beach.
Riddell scored on a 21-yard run in the first quarter, then twice in the fourth quarter on runs of 18 and 47 yards.
The Mustangs’ other touchdowns came on a 24-yard pass from quarterback Mike Crowe to Mike Ritchie in the first quarter and a 82-yard run by Terry Bryant in the second.
Rancho Alamitos’ first score came when its defense tackled Riddell in the end zone for a safety in the second quarter. The other was a fourth-quarter touchdown pass of 53 yards from John Newsome to Sean Cheatham.
Costa Mesa is 3-0 and Rancho Alamitos is 0-2-1.
