A scientific study of a fire that was scheduled to be set this week in 1,200 acres of chaparral in the Angeles National Forest has been delayed until Nov. 15 at the earliest because of unfavorable weather, officials said. The fire, originally planned as a controlled burn of dangerously dry brush, will be used to study the theory of nuclear winter, fire-caused air pollution and erosion. The project had already been delayed several times because atmospheric conditions made the area either too wet or threatened to carry smoke over the Los Angeles basin.
