The loss of quarterback Tom Bonds on Saturday caused Cal Lutheran Coach Bob Shoup considerable discomfort. But he was really bent over in pain Sunday. Shoup, who has a chronic back problem, reinjured his back as he stepped out of a car on his way to church in Hayward.
“Whatever I did, it wasn’t the right thing to do. I’ve been taking some muscle-relaxing pills and I’m getting goofier and goofier. By the end of the week, I’ll either be cured or I’ll be a junkie.”
