Santa Ana High School will meet Mission Viejo at 7:30 tonight in Santa Ana Stadium in a rematch of last season’s Southern Conference championship game.
Santa Ana climaxed a remarkable run through the conference playoffs last season with a 32-21 victory over Mission Viejo in the title game as sophomore running back Robert Lee rushed for 231 yards.
Lee has been sporadic this season, and so has the Saints’ offense. He has rushed for 180 yards in 49 carries for a 3.6 average.
Santa Ana (2-1) rose to the No. 1 position in the Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. poll after a season-opening, 29-6 victory over Newport Harbor. But the Saints fell to ninth after losing to Saddleback, 25-6.
Mission Viejo (1-2) also has sputtered offensively. The Diablos have averaged only nine points a game. Tailback Darrin Sweazy has rushed for 273 yards in 52 carries for a 5.3 average.
In other action, Anaheim plays host to Garden Grove in a nonleague game in Glover Stadium at Anaheim. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30.
