MILFORD, Conn. — The United States Basketball League has voted to begin its 1987 season a month early in a effort to stem the defection of players to the National Basketball Assn.
The league’s board of directors voted to begin the regular season on May 15, 1987, and finish by July 19, 1987, to avoid conflict with NBA rookie camps, which usually begin in late July or early August, the USBL said in a statement.
The USBL lost 36 of its 69 plays to NBA rookie camps during its inaugural season in 1985.
