PEKING — Negligence by officials in Henan province has caused the deaths of 305 people in various incidents since the beginning of last year, an official Chinese newspaper said Monday.
The Economic Daily said the incidents in the central China province injured nearly 100 people and caused losses to the state of $1.2 million. It blamed inadequate punishment of negligent officials in the past.
The only incident mentioned was the sinking last year of a boat on Qingtianhe reservoir, killing 113 people.
