FALL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Alemany Runs Over Loyola’s Streak

The Alemany High boy’s cross-country team defeated defending Southern Section-champion Loyola, 22-33, on Wednesday, handing the Cubs their first dual-meet loss in two years.
“It more or less gives us a lock on first place in the Del Rey League,” said Alemany Coach Randy Smith after his Indians improved their record to 4-0.
Alemany’s Jose Haro set a new Alemany course record with a time of 16:05 in finishing first. Loyola freshman Rene Rigal finished second (16:18) and Alemany’s Greg Jones was third (16:22).
St. Francis 21, Notre Dame 34--Mike Glaze of Notre Dame finished first in 15:20. David Beaudet off St. Francis was second in 15:27.
Water Polo
Crespi 11, Notre Dame 7--Chappie DeHaven and Dave Scott of Crespi each scored four goals.
Royal 20, Simi Valley 4--Greg Frazier of Royal scored eight goals. Teammates Tom Wolfe and Pat Scholz each scored three goals.
