Europe in the Sierra

Ever since we read about Erna’s Elderberry House at Oakhurst, Calif., in a Jerry Hulse column (and a friend also recommended it) we planned to eat there. We just returned from Yosemite, where we had dinner at Elderberry House. From the moment we entered the elegant yet cozy dining room we felt that we were invited guests at a European country estate. The dinnerware and the beautiful crystal glasses were of the finest quality. Friendly, impeccably dressed waitresses announced every course of the six-course table d’hote (prix fixe) dinner.
The food was superb. Erna was a charming hostess and really made everybody feel at home. The price for our two dinners (without wine) was about $60, not exactly cheap but well worth it.
