Broad Brush, one of only two 3-year-olds in the field, burst away from the pack on the final turn and raced to a 3 3/4-length victory in the $500,000 Meadowlands Cup at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J. Angel Cordero rode the winner.
Skip Trial, the 7-2 second choice, with Jean-Luc Samyn aboard, rallied to place by a nose over Little Missouri, a 15-1 shot ridden by Eddie Maple. Creme Fraiche, the Jockey Club Gold Cup winner, finished fourth in the field of 10.
The victory was the 10th in 18 starts for Broad Brush, and the $300,000 first prize increased his career earnings to $1,452,113.
Broad Brush covered the 1 miles on a fast track in 2:01 3/5 and returned $6.20 to win.
