Former Linebacker at Canyon Resigns From West Point

Cary Caufield, who played on Canyon High’s Golden League and Northwestern Conference championship team last season, has resigned as a cadet in the Army Academy.

A spokesman at West Point would not say why Caufield resigned on Oct. 2. Caufield was not available for comment.

Canyon Coach Harry Welch said he did not know to which college Caufield planned to transfer, but he did say he had heard the All-Southern Section linebacker might go to either Brigham Young or Cal Lutheran.

“I have no doubt that Cary can play major college football anywhere he would like,” Welch said.
