The Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic has received a $175,000 grant from the Irvine Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization that gives money to health care education and research programs in the Irvine community.
The Beckman Laser Institute, a $7.5-million, privately funded center that opened in June at UC Irvine, uses lasers for research and medical treatment against diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and eye disorders.
“We believe that the institute will be making a significant contribution to this community and the entire nation,” said David Sills, board chairman of the foundation. The $175,000 grant is the largest ever awarded by the foundation, Sills said.
