SAN FRANCISCO — Pebble Beach Golf Links, the site of U.S. Opens in 1972 and 1982, will be host for the 1992 Open, United States Golf Assn. officials have announced.
The 92nd Open will be played at Pebble Peach June 18-21, 1992.
“We are delighted to be able to bring the national championship back to Pebble Beach,” said Spaeth, who made the announcement from The Olympic Club, the site of next year’s Open. “Pebble Beach has an allure for all golfers and we are happy to be invited back.”
Four-time Open winner Jack Nicklaus won his third Open at Pebble Beach in 1972, defeating Arnold Palmer and Bruce Crampton by three strokes. Four years ago, Nicklaus had a chance to win the Open at Pebble Beach before Tom Watson holed a chip for a birdie on the 17th hole.
The Country Club at Brookline, Mass., will be host for the 1988 Open.
