Young Chinese Say Deng Is the Best

PEKING — Young Chinese think Deng Xiaoping is the best of all world leaders, while Margaret Thatcher earns top honors as the most respected foreign official, according to a poll published Friday in the People’s Daily.
Seventy-one percent of 8,000 young people polled said Deng is their favorite world statesman and 88% said they prefer him to other Chinese leaders. The paper did not say who ran second.
Britain’s prime minister led the field of most respected foreign leaders with 40% in the poll, conducted nationwide by the independent Peking Social Investigation Institute.
