Results of key national races in Tuesday’s elections:
--Democratic Gov. Bob Graham unseated first-term Republican Sen. Paula Hawkins in Florida.
--Republican Guy Hunt defeated Democratic Lt. Gov. Bill Baxley to become Alabama’s first GOP governor in 112 years.
--Rep. John B. Breaux kept the Louisiana Senate seat of retiring Russell B. Long in Democratic hands with a victory over GOP Rep. W. Henson Moore.
--Republican Gov. James R. Thompson won a fourth term in Illinois, defeating Democrat Adlai E. Stevenson III.
--Democratic Rep. Wyche Fowler Jr. unseated Republican Sen. Mack Mattingly in Georgia.
--New York Democratic Gov. Mario M. Cuomo easily won reelection over GOP opponent Andrew P. O’Rourke.
