S. Africa Air Rights End Sunday

WASHINGTON — The Transportation Department ordered an end today to air service between the United States and South Africa, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, implementing a sanction imposed by Congress six weeks ago.
The order terminates South African Airways’ landing rights in the United States and prohibits any U.S. airline from flying in and out of South Africa. The South African air carrier has been flying two to three flights a week between Johannesburg and New York. No U.S. carrier serves South Africa.
