BLONDE SOUNDS

Betty Hutton, retired from show biz since ’57 and now a theater arts teacher in the East, is enjoying a comeback of sorts--in the world’s record stores. Buyers have been without Hutton since 1954 when RCA released her last recording, the sound track for an NBC musical spectacular called “Satins and Spurs,” and Warner Bros. issued a “Saints and Sinners” LP.

But look what’s happening now:

“A Square in the Social Circle” from Capitol has been remastered in France and includes most of Hutton’s Capitol hits, ranging from “It Had to Be You” to “My Rocking Horse Ran Away.”

The sound track from Paramount’s “Somebody Loves Me” (1952) has been reissued on Canada’s “Motion Picture Tracks” label.

The same company has rereleased the “Satins and Spurs” sound track.

EMI in England has come out with “Blonde Bombshell,” featuring Hutton hits plus a few of her more obscure 1940s recordings.

MCA Records will reissue the sound track from MGM’s “Annie Get Your Gun.”

Record jobbers tell us that the first four albums have had sales in the 10s of thousands worldwide in recent weeks. The Tower Records chain has reordered “Square” six times.

And, of course, black marketeers are busy with a glut of bootlegs.
