As a social studies teacher in San Diego, I try very hard to instill in my students a respect for the system of law and equal justice upon which this nation was founded. One of the cornerstones of the American system is that all men and women are equal before the law.
I am, therefore, ashamed of the recent disclosures concerning Police Chief Bill Kolender, i.e. the dismissal of thousands of parking tickets given to influential “friends” of the Police Department. This unethical practice has made a mockery of the department’s motto, “to protect and serve.”
Kolender should apologize to the young people of San Diego and resign.
