San Diego Volleyball : UCSD Women Beat Menlo to Advance

UC San Diego advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III women’s volleyball championships Saturday night by beating Menlo College, 8-15, 15-13, 15-8, 15-7 in a regional playoff match at La Jolla.
The Tritons, 40-6 and ranked No. 1, will face the winner of the Juniata-SUNY Albany match at a site to be determined next week.
Carol Lipson and Janet Hughes led the Tritons with 15 kills each. Kim Stonecipher had 55 assists. It was UCSD’s third victory in four matches this season against Menlo, which is 42-8 and ranked second in Division III.
Menlo was led by Colleen Kawelu with 16 kills and Daisy Pratt with 15.
In other action, the University of San Diego lost at home to the University of San Francisco, 15-9, 16-14, 15-10, Saturday night in a West Coast Athletic Conference match.
