A former secretary-treasurer of Long Beach Teamsters Union, Local 911, was sentenced Monday in Los Angeles federal court to make restitution of $130,000 after his guilty plea to embezzling from employee health plan trust funds.
U.S. District Judge Mariana R. Pfaelzer also placed Alva Dotson Bennett, 52, of Huntington Beach on three years’ probation and ordered him to perform 600 hours of community service.
Four others were indicted with Bennett last January. Matthew W. McCusker, 68, of Encino and Nicholas M. Nicholson, 39, and his wife, Dana, 38, of San Clemente, were convicted and await sentencing in December. Elwyn L. Raffetto, 51, of Huntington Beach was acquitted.
