The Nation : Top Federal Pay May Rise

The federal Commission on Executive, Legislative and Judicial Salaries will recommend hefty raises for more than 3,000 top-level positions such as member of Congress and appellate judge, Reagan Administration officials said. They said the panel will suggest a maximum of $135,000 a year for the Congress, appeals court judges and other senior officials, instead of the current top level of $75,000. President Reagan is sympathetic to the idea of a pay increase, the Washington Post reported, and has the power to put it into effect if Congress does not reverse his decision within 30 days.
