SAN DIEGO — The University of San Diego men’s basketball team plays host to Loyola (Md.) College at the USD Sports Center at 7:30 tonight.
The Toreros (6-3) beat Rice on Tuesday, 48-47, As has been the case most of the season, USD played well in the first half, building a 31-13 lead. But the Toreros scored only 17 points in the second half.
“For some reason, we just stopped playing in the second half,” USD Coach Hank Egan said. “We’ve got to keep going after it.”
USD has averaged nearly a 14-point halftime lead in its six victories. But the Toreros’ final margin averages only a little more than three points a game.
Loyola (4-1) returns four starters from last season’s 16-12 team. David Gately, a 6-foot 3-inch senior guard, averaged 16.3 points per game last season. This will be the first meeting between the schools.
