The FBI said it was investigating as “a very serious matter” the shooting of a United Airlines passenger wounded by a bullet fired from the ground into a jet approaching Raleigh-Durham Airport in North Carolina. The bullet punched a hole 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter in the fuselage of the Boeing 737 jetliner, passed through the thigh of passenger Barry Rollins and lodged in his cheek. Rollins, 30, of New York, was reported in stable condition at Rex Hospital.
