A Clairemont woman died early Saturday at her residence in a fire apparently caused by a cigarette, a San Diego Fire Department spokesman said.
Mary Ellen Norton, 57, died in the 12:45 a.m. blaze at 3910 Mount Abraham Ave., coroner’s deputies said.
The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the house, the fire spokesman said. Four dogs also died in the blaze.
Investigators said the cause of the fire apparently was an “ignited cigarette carelessly watched.”
