Local News in Brief : Driver Killed as Car Veers Into Power Pole

A 43-year-old Van Nuys woman was killed early Monday when her car hit a parked car and a power pole in Van Nuys, police said.
The woman, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was driving south on Van Nuys Boulevard shortly after midnight, Sgt. Joe Cross said.
A witness told police the woman sped through a red light at Victory Boulevard, veered into the northbound lanes and swerved back into the southbound lanes before hitting the car and the pole north of Emelita Street, Cross said.
The woman was pronounced dead at Valley Medical Center, he said.
