The body of a woman patient of a San Leandro hospital was found on the hospital grounds 10 days after she walked away from her bed in a robe and pajamas. Coroner’s officials said Cookie Sanchez, 35, of Berkeley, died of the same liver ailment for which she had been undergoing treatment at Fairmont Alameda Hospital. She had been dead about three days when the body was found at a hillside dump site a few hundred yards from the main building, according to the Alameda County coroner’s office. Her relatives had said that the Sheriff’s Department and hospital authorities “didn’t do a very good job of looking for her” after Sanchez disappeared, a charge which both deputies and hospital authorities deny.
