National Anthem

I am a bit surprised at my writing this letter, but I find that I am upset at the way some singers render the Star Spangled Banner at public events.
The word “glissando” comes to mind. Yech! Taking certain words of that national treasure and jiggling or “jinking” them offends me, sounds bad, and just simply seems out of place. Not in keeping, I think, with presenting our national anthem. Leave the swooping, dipping, and other shtick to the more transient music.
